As everyone knows by now, Barack Obama has been elected our next president of these United States. We all also know that Obama is for gun control. Gun buyers have been buying like wildfire since the election. While he may try to ban guns from the public at large, there are still many Self Defense Products that one can purchase for their own use. Stun Guns, Tasers, and Mace are all very effective and economical in our troubled economy. Have you noticed that crime is on an upswing? This may be a direct result of our struggling economy. Yet, not one candidate mentioned it during their campaigns. I guess that talking about terrorism (Which is a crime I suppose) was more important than the murder of our families and children. Tell your elected officials that crime is important and needs to be dealt with as well. Protect your family at all costs.

Stupid Criminal
Just had to write about this. Some DUMB would be criminal tried to break into a liquor store here where I live. His first mistake was breaking a window, but not enough to get his big butt through. And then when someone saw him trying to wriggle himself through the broken glass, he just calmly walked to the back of the store. When the individual who saw him finally stopped laughing, he called the police. They took about 5 minutes to get there and calmy walked up to the guy and arrested him. Some people need to take up another hobby.
Your Personal Defense:
When we talk about stopping crime, we must also talk about Self Defense. While there are different types of Defense (Self, Home, Property), we are going to focus on Your Personal Defense.
Self Defense is a natural instinct. All living things attempt to protect themselves if they are being attacked. Animals such as the Skunk use the sense of smell as a weapon. Porcupines use the sense of touch, and snakes use pain and poison. You probably get the picture by now. Man was not born with these self defense mechanisms built in. Therefore we have had to invent our own.
Some people keep guns in their home to protect themselves. While a gun maybe very effective. There are many legal issues that need to be considered. Were you truly in the right to shoot this person? Was your life threatened? These are questions that a court would have to decide if you were to kill someone with a gun. Another thing to consider when contemplating carrying a gun is the emotional trauma of actually shooting someone. Ask yourself these questions. Can I actually pull the trigger? Can I shoot someone and not be haunted by this for the rest of my life? While there are a great many people who can answer these questions and actually be able to do it, there are equally as many who cannot.
There area great many Non Lethal methods of self defense available at very reasonable prices. I will attempt to explain the advantages and disadvantages of some of these products.
Stun Guns: A Stun Gun is a very effective self defense product. Stun Guns use high voltage and low amperage to temporarily disable an attacker for several minutes. The Stun Gun does not rely on pain or the person’s threshold for pain for results. The Stun Gun interrupts the tiny neurological impulses that control and direct voluntary muscle movement. This involuntary muscle movement in turn causes the attacker to become disoriented and unbalanced, allowing you to get away. The disadvantage is that you must be close enough to the attacker to touch them with the Stun Gun.
Mace/Pepper Sprays: Mace/Pepper Sprays are also very effective in the fight to stop-crime. Pepper Sprays are designed to make the eyes slam shut and causes uncontrollable coughing and choking, plus a painful burning sensation. This is involuntary, and cannot be stopped. This will allow you to call for help and get away. Pepper sprays can be dispersed in a spray, stream, foam, or gel. The disadvantage of Pepper Sprays is the fact that they generally need to be pointed at the person while spraying.
Tasers: The Taser shoots out 2 darts attached to 15 feet of wire. Varying volts of electricity (depending on model) travels over the wires and over-rides the central nervous system providing incredible takedown power. The muscles lock up and the attacker falls to the ground almost instantly. Plus the Taser is controlled by the person holding it and can be reactivated as needed. The Tasers disadvantage is that there are widely varying laws regarding the use and whether it can be carried in public.
As I have shown here, there are several products out there to help protect you. There are also many more. Always research a product before purchasing. And remember; only YOU can stop-crime.

Stop Crime in America:
Crime is running rampant in America. Our students are missing, children are disappearing, and families are killing one another. Here we will outline a few tips to help keep crime out of your life.
Be vigilant and aware of your surroundings at all times. Take a few extra seconds to assess every situation. Look to see if someone is wearing a heavy coat in the middle of summer. Notice if someone or something is out of place. Make sure to always park in well lit areas. Always check around for anything suspicious in or around your car before getting in or out of it.
Be informed at all times. Listen to the news and read the paper daily. If there has been a rash of crimes committed in a certain area, you may notice this and avoid that area. Talk to friends, they may have heard something that you haven’t. Check offender websites to find out if a predator has moved into your neighborhood.
Inform others of where you are going and when you expect to return. Carry a Cell Phone, and know where the nearest police department is.
Know where your children are at all times. Check on them frequently. If they are not asking you “Why are you always checking on me?” Then maybe you aren’t checking enough. If your children are outside the home playing, call them in frequently. Ask them- Have you seen any strangers? Or has anyone been asking you strange questions? Check outside for unknown people hanging around your home. Or, any strange cars parked close to your home.
Always be aware of Identity theft. Check your bank account often. If you are using online banking, check it daily. Change your password frequently. Use at least one number, one letter, one capital letter, and one special character in all of your passwords if possible. Write “Require photo ID in the signature block on the back of your credit cards. If you use the drop chute to deposit money into your account, go before it gets dark and bring someone with you.
Always ask for identification when someone comes to your door. IE: Utility repair people, cable guy. Keep doors and windows locked, even when you are at home. Ask a neighbor to watch your home if you are going to be away. Stop mail service and paper delivery. Change you outside lights when they blow out. Keeps gates closed. The sound of it opening may be enough to alert you. Keep a phone within reach in case you need to call 911. Remember, if you only have time to dial 911 put the phone down and protect yourself. Most area’s can locate your address just from the call. And the operator may hear the intruder to help identify them.
These tips are in no way conclusive or meant to be the only way to protect you and your family. But with a little common sense and practice you will be much safer every day.
